Precision Embryo Transfer for Successful Implantation

Embryo transfer is a significant milestone in your fertility journey. Before the procedure, our doctors will carefully review your embryo transfer plan with you. In most cases, we recommend transferring a single high-quality embryo to maximize success while minimizing risks. However, in certain cases, an individualized approach may be necessary based on factors such as:

Age
Uterine lining development
Overall health
Embryo quality and quantity

The embryo transfer itself is performed in our office. Using a specially designed thin catheter, our doctors will carefully place the selected embryo(s) into your uterine cavity at the optimal implantation site. This procedure is quick, painless, and does not require anesthesia.

Post-Transfer Care

After embryo transfer, it is normal to experience mild cramping or abdominal discomfort due to shifting hormone levels. To support implantation, we recommend:

Avoiding hot baths, saunas, or hot tubs
Refraining from strenuous exercise or high-impact activities
Avoiding sexual intercourse until otherwise advised

Following a healthy diet and avoiding alcohol, excessive caffeine, drugs, and recreational/medicinal marijuana

Pregnancy Test

The two-week wait after an embryo transfer can be emotionally challenging. At South Coast Fertility Specialists, we schedule a blood pregnancy test approximately:

Two weeks after a Day 3 embryo transfer
Twelve days after a Day 5 embryo transfer

While home pregnancy tests may be tempting, we strongly discourage early testing. Over-the-counter urine tests can lead to false negatives or misleading results, causing unnecessary anxiety. A blood test provides the most accurate confirmation of pregnancy.
