Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy

At South Coast Fertility Specialists, we offer preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) to help optimize your chances of a successful pregnancy. PGT-A is a screening process that checks embryos for abnormal chromosome numbers before they are transferred to the uterus.

This advanced testing may improve live birth rates and reduce the risk of miscarriage for certain patients. After fertilization, embryos develop in an incubator until they reach the blastocyst stage, typically between days 5-7. At this point, a small sample of 5-7 cells from the trophectoderm (the part of the embryo that will later form the placenta) is carefully extracted and tested. Only embryos with the correct number of chromosomes are selected for transfer, increasing the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy.
